How process mapping improves business
Business process mapping is the depiction of a process in diagrammatic form. It provides a clear and comprehensive picture of the way a particular organisational activity is undertaken, so it can be analysed, measured, improved and controlled for Business Process Re-Engineering. When applied to all the processes in an organisation it becomes a key enabler of Business Improvement. However, only when it becomes truly embedded as an organisational operation can it facilitate continuous Improvement initiatives.
Processes can be seen as a sequence of activities designed to transform inputs into outputs. For example, a task like baking a cake involves taking various ingredients (inputs) and producing the cake (output) using a recipe (process). The recipe can then be broken down into more detailed activities such as mixing the ingredients, baking the cake and icing the cake.
Whilst the above example is extremely simplistic, the majority of an organisation’s processes are extremely complex. In fact, the best process maps are those which operate at several levels and allow for all of the key documentation associated with the process to be attached or linked. Qmap software works in this hierarchical way, ensuring different team members can understand and act upon processes without having to spend hours drilling into unnecessary detail or searching for documents to which it refers.
This is why so many organisations have put our Qmap software, at the heart of their operational improvement programmes for
cost reduction,
profit increase,
quality, compliance,
Six Sigma, Lean and Lean Sigma.
